I did it! I have wanted a new haircut for over a year and I finally had the courage to follow through. I always loved the inverted layered cut, I love how it looks on curly hair and the shape is absolutely dope. I have been in the natural hair game for almost six years and I have learned that the shape of your curls can make or break your hairstyles.

Can you believe that we are in the middle of January already? I hope you are still focused on your intentions that you set for 2017. I have been grinding hard and dedicating time towards my goals for the new year. We can be so busy that we lose sight on things that are important to us. I love repeating daily affirmations when I feel that my vibrations are low. Affirmations can be great friendly reminders and pick me ups. I feel better instantly after repeating them a few times. Below are some of my simple and favorite affirmations that are great to add to your daily routines.
1. You are beautiful
Yes, I have moments when I am not feeling my best. Sometimes my curls do not respond the way I want them to. There are mornings when I am not able to spend the time that I wanted on my make-up for the day. I still look in the mirror and tell myself that I am beautiful each and every day. I fully love and embrace myself even with my flaws. It takes work to get there and it does not happen over night, but it is possible.
I fully embrace you with open arms. 2016 was my year of growth in an array of areas of my life. I am ready to take on my goals and my intentions that I set for the year. There were a lot of learning lessons that I discovered and I’m looking forward to bringing them along with me this new year:
I do not give my energy to those that do not value me.
No more one-sided relationships. I will not give my energy or go out my way to those that do not earn it. It is exhausting and delays my own goals that I need to work on.

These last two weeks have been so hard. My multiple (yes, more than one) to-do lists were long and it felt like I was never going to cross anything off. Trying to finish everything at once left me with low energy and I was drained (my apologies for not posting for a minute). After finishing all of the things I needed to do, I had to take a few days to re-group and get myself together. That’s a huge step for me! I am usually the person who keeps going and going. Usually, it would take a cold for me to slow down. But, I learned the hard way that it’s not the way to handle it. At times we need to slow down, at times we need to know when to stop. And I knew that I needed to stop (yay for growth!).
In order to get my energy back up, I ate plenty of fruits and veggies. I prefer to get my energy from natural sources. Along with the produce, I took my multi – vitamins with lots of water. I made sure that I received more than enough rest so I can wake up feeling less tired. Keeping a positive attitude, meditating, and my daily mantras definitely helped me make it through. But you are probably wondering, why is she sharing this? That’s because I get drained from everyday life as well. And sometimes, we forget that we need to slow down and take care of ourselves. That basket of laundry that needs to be folded can wait another day or two. Rest up queen!
Previously, I wrote a post about why it is important to take time for you. Self-care is the key for long-term happiness. When you take time to care and attend to what makes you happy, it will reflect in other aspects of your life. I became a better daughter, sister, friend, dog owner, and work professional when I decided to include consistent self-care rituals in my lifestyle. I learned how important self-care was a couple of years ago and it has changed my life drastically since. I try to take time for it almost every day (about an hour a day) and take the time to meditate, read, cook, or just simply relax. In addition, I will take extra time on Saturday or Sunday after I complete my long list of errands.

When I think of summer, warm weather and sunny days are the first to come to my mind. Beaches and ice cream are not far behind from those thoughts either. But festivals and outdoor events are definitely next. The city of Baltimore has a variety of summer festivals that you can attend. Artscape is a free art festival that usually occurs over a weekend that has a variety of vendors including artists, designers, and craftspeople. In addition, there are plenty of food vendors to choose from! There is also a schedule of live music and other performing arts.

I took a vacation last week…a much needed one. It was time for me to take a little break from work, home life, and even my dog. It has been a very long time since I had a vacation and I knew I had to make it happen. I have been telling my cousin that I would visit him in Chicago for a few years now and it was time to follow through. My cousin was a wonderful host and showed me around the city. Before I go more in depth with my trip, it’s time to me to elaborate on how important it is to take a vacation.

So you’re probably wondering, why did I chose to create a blog? During the fall of 2012, I started my senior year of college. I majored in Mass Communication and I had to complete a few writing courses for general requirements. Usually, college students dislike taking general requirement classes but I actually loved my writing classes. I have been wearing my hair in its natural state for a little over a year at this time and I enjoyed going to curly events. At that moment, I knew I had to blog about something I am passionate about.
